Hello! I’m Marshall.
I’m a hard-working, newly-minted Front-End Engineer passionate about shaping the future of the web. I recently graduated from the Front-End Engineering course at The Iron Yard in Greenville, SC. While there, I was met with daily challenges like learning new concepts and deploying code to the web. There, I became versed in creating CRUD applications and working with RESTful APIs.
However, that alone doesn't sum up the whole of my experience. I have a background in design, web-to-print variable document development, I.T. management and myriad other skills gained while working in the field before deciding to take on the wonderful world of web development.
I build software utilizing modern web technologies, frameworks, libraries and build tools. Following the MVC-style approach to help manage data flow, I bring to life snappy user interfaces and keep data up-to-date with state using Backbone & React.
CSS3 via Sass is my go-to for authoring styles for my markup—I especially like tinkering around with transitions and animations. I’ve mostly written my JavaScript in ES3/ES5 and beginning to explore ES6/2015—the spec is a big improvement over what we’ve had in past years and future iterations of the spec are exciting.
I’m a life learner and striving to improve upon what I know. I keep my ear to the ground through various web development newsletters and find code challenges as a way to keep current in this rapidly growing space!
Most developers know there is a vast amount of tools available to develop the web, with new tools seemingly coming out every other week. Deciding on which tools to use can sometimes be a tough choice and learning new tools can be both exciting and terrifying. There are thousands upon thousands of tech-minded folks out there pioneering what it looks like to develop for the front end — and I'm excited to be a part of it!
Below is a list of the core technologies, tools and frameworks (represented by their pretty logos) that summarize the tech that I've learned to use thus far:
This is the capstone project of the cohort, a culmination of the 12 hard weeks at The Iron Yard. The idea of my app was to create a collaborative story-telling platform, where users can create an account, upload a photo of their faces, and either start a new story, or add to others.
This project is built with the most current web technologies plus React, Backbone, Bootstrap (Sass), and powered by Parse Server on the back-end. It's 3rd party API is LanguageTool.org’s free online grammar checker. To demo it now, go to the Live link, click Demo and then Log In.
